Slow Food Russian River operates a Community Apple Press on weekends from August into October, from 9 AM to 3 PM, at the Luther Burbank’s Gold Ridge Experiment Farm, 7777 Bodega Ave, in Sebastopol. Use of the press is a free community service made available by Slow Food, an international food organization that supports local farmers.
To reserve a time to press apples, click the “Reserve” button above. Volunteers will be available to help you, so all you need to bring is your apples and containers with lids.
So we can serve all who want to use the press, please limit your quantity of apples to not more than 100 pounds per visit. A five-gallon bucket holds about 20 pounds of apples and produces about one gallon of juice. So if you have about 5 buckets/100 pounds, bring containers for at least 5 gallons of juice. Twenty minutes is sufficient to press 100 pounds of apples. Bring a friend, or two, or your family to make your work lighter!
Because we want to make this community service available to as many different people as possible, we ask that you reserve the press no more than three times (three time slots) during the season.
As an all-volunteer non-profit organization, donations are critical. Reserving the press is free, but we hope you will support our work either donating online or by mail, or by making a cash or check donation at the press.
We also need help to run the press safely. If you're interested in helping out, please check out our volunteer page. It’s easy, it’s fun, and it’s rewarding! We ask that anyone who uses more than two time slots during the season also volunteers for at least one shift.
Many thanks for your support, whether by donation or by volunteering!
